“The power and intensity of your contractions cannot be stronger than you, because it is you.” ~ Unknown
Birth Doula Services I Provide:
First prenatal visit - We will discuss your hopes and plans for your birth, and your unique situation. I will provide helpful tips for massage techniques and positions that we can try, and education materials on topics that interest you. We will get to know each other and become comfortable with one another. I can help you with your birth plan, and provide resources if desired. These visits typically last between 1 and 2 hours and happen in your home.
Second prenatal visit - This visit will allow us to review your birth plan, discuss any questions you may have, practice helpful techniques, and enable us to become even more comfortable with one another. This is also a good time to talk about breastfeeding and newborn care. This visit is also typically between 1 and 2 hours and take place in your home.
Emails and phone calls - These are unlimited from the time we decide to work together. Feel free to email or call me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Labor - During our prenatal visits we will determine when you want me to arrive. I will support you continuously throughout your labor and delivery. After the birth, I will stay for 1-2 hours to ensure you are settling in with baby, and provide breastfeeding support if desired.
Postpartum visit - This visit will be used to discuss how you feel about your birth experience, go over any questions, celebrate your new baby, and provide support with breastfeeding and newborn care. Typically 1-2 hours.
A doula with a woman's partner:
I'm very happy to meet families before they settle on which doula is best for them. My primary concern is the well-being of the new mom. While I am trained in labor and birth, a partner knows her the best of all and together I can help them work as a team so that the birth of their child is a memorable event. It's important that families understand that I know how important this experience is for both (all) of you. Because of that I do not get between a woman and her partner. I'm there to help, guide, and support both of you. Here is a great resource for Dads and Doulas and a description on how Doulas benefit Dads. (Apologies for non-inclusive language in these links.)
